BE VIGILANT: DOORSTEP SELLERS/SCAMS AND ROGUE TRADING

🚨 BE VIGILANT: DOORSTEP SELLERS/SCAMS AND ROGUE TRADING 🚨

We have been made aware of possible Rogue trading/door to door sales around the Northolme area in Gainsborough.

We are reminding residents to be cautious of unexpected callers at their door offering services or products.

While many traders are legitimate, some doorstep sellers use high-pressure tactics, make false claims, or carry out poor-quality work after taking payment. Common examples include offers for roofing repairs, driveway work, gardening services, tree cutting, or property maintenance that may not actually be needed.

If unsure - don't open the door.

Do not feel pressured into making an immediate decision. Close the door and take a minute to verify a company - They will understand if they are legitimate.

Ask for identification and company details. If they refuse - don't engage further.

Never call a number from a business card without checking first - a quick google search should link the number to a registered company if it is legitimate.

Never hand over cash or make payments on the doorstep.

Take time to discuss any work with a family member, friend, or neighbour before agreeing.

Be especially mindful of elderly or vulnerable relatives who may be targeted.

Don't be trapped by significant discounts if you agree "today only".

Never send money to anyone you don’t know or trust, whether in the UK or abroad, or use methods of payment you’re not comfortable with.

Never give banking or personal details to anyone you don’t know or trust. This information is valuable so make sure you protect it.

📞 What To Do

If you feel uncomfortable, close the door and do not engage.

Report suspicious activity to Police on 101.

If a crime is in progress or you feel threatened, call 999 immediately.
